WWE Legend Defends Goldberg Amid Backlash Over Gunther World Title Clash

There’s not much time left for Goldberg ‘s last dance against Gunther for the coveted World Heavyweight Championship. The duo will collide in Atlanta next weekend at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12. But ever since it was made official, the majority of the fans and wrestling critics aren’t over the moon with it being the working plan. However, 5-time World Champion Booker T has to say something about those naysayers.

On his Hall of Fame podcast, the 60-year-old called out Goldberg’s contemporaries and explained how their whining is unjustified. The Hall of Famer asked those veterans to calm down, as they, too, would have accepted it in a heartbeat if the opportunity presented itself. Furthermore, Booker T admitted he would have done it for sure.

So anybody out there complaining can just shut the hell up. Seriously, because I know if they would have called me, I would have did it. And I know just about anybody that’s in that position, that’s that’s able to actually walk to that ring, they would have did it too.

The former ‘Harlem Heat’ member also doubled down on the younger crop of WWE stars, taking offense to the company’s special treatment of Goldberg. He hoped for them to reach the stardom of the WCW legend so that one day, when they are his age. And if they can, they too would be called back by WWE to perform at such a high level.

The former Universal Champion may be struggling with his body at 58 years of age, which was very prevalent with his infamous outing with The Undertaker in Saudi Arabia some years back, and his parade of regular short matches. Moreover, his knees have almost given out, which was quite evident during his recent appearance on Raw. The Tulsa native was caught limping during his entrance after reacting to his pyro. The Hall of Famer has also undergone stem cell therapy as part of his in-ring preparations that began a few months ago.

But in his heyday, the Atlanta native went 173-0 in WCW and was always a top attraction even when he debuted in the WWE back in 2003. For the unversed, Goldberg faced The Rock in his debut outing at Backlash 2003 and even went on to win the World title against Triple H later that year at Unforgiven. All of this in a few months! And this is exactly the kind of stardom Booker T is talking about. Leading up to SNME, things are certainly heating up for good.

Paul Heyman Confirms His New Moniker in WWE

What has gone down between Goldberg and Gunther in recent weeks?

Goldberg hasn’t actually had a promo battle with Gunther , with just one more episode of Raw to go until their match. The erstwhile defensive tackle for the Falcons has done a sit-down interview with Michael Cole , where the wrestling great vowed to make Gunther pay for disrespecting him at last year’s Bad Blood .

In response, the Austrian asserted that it’s his responsibility to bury the legacy of Bill Goldberg at Saturday Night’s Main Event. This past Monday on Raw, WWE aired a special video package for the Hall of Famer, which highlighted his career-best moments.

Gunther quipped that it was perfectly suited for his opponent, which summed up the latter’s career in just three minutes, just like the length of his matches. The ex-Imperium boss declared that he will embarrass the former WCW Champion when they meet next Saturday . Amid the tension, Goldberg’s son has made a prediction about his father performing on July 12.

Goldberg’s son doesn’t believe his dad would be done wrestling after Saturday Night’s Main Event

Even though WWE is promoting Goldberg’s upcoming clash with Gunther as his last, a number of fans have their doubts about it. And guess what? Gage , who is the former WCW Champion’s son, thinks likewise. Speaking to Sportskeeda WrestleBinge , the linebacker for the Colorado Buffaloes stated that no matter if his father loses or wins against Gunther, he would feel the itch to wrestle again.

Gage mentioned that his dad used to be like ‘The Ring General’ in his heyday. Therefore, he is looking forward to their SNME showdown, which, as per Gage, is going to be a challenge for his legendary father. For the unversed, Gage Goldberg has made several appearances on WWE television alongside his 58-year-old pops. Moreover, he was the main element that pushed the Hall of Famer to return to the promotion back in 2016 when he faced Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series.

Win or lose, he’s going to get the feel, he’s going to get the itch again that he wants to stay in the ring……..

In fact, the WWE Universe was shocked at his physical transformation when they saw him all grown up from being a kid he used to be back in 2016-17. Gage is expected to accompany his mother to his father’s wrestling swansong in Atlanta .
